My last post was taken between storms. This morning is was raining and blowing pretty good. Pismo Rock is a place I go to often looking for different ways to capture it. This is what it looked like early this morning. I have never seen the tide and wave action bring the water this high around the rock.
I was taking a photo walk yesterday afternoon at Avila Beach, California and was reminded of a recent post by Stephen Hipperson titled Contre-jour. This capture was about 3:00PM so as the sun sets further I imagine the look will change. So something for next time. Thanks Stephen for the inspiration.
I was in Sedona, Arizona last week during the extreme heat and forest fires. The combination created grey hazy sky’s and any chance of getting decent color photos of the chapel and rod rock country went up in smoke. It was a good opportunity, however, to continue to experiment with black and white film.
I like landscape so don’t often get close. I got to visit the Santa Margarita Ranch the other day and took shots of all sorts of ranch implements with my 50MM wide open. Going through them this morning I found this example of bokeh which I rarely see in my shots. It sure does highlight the subject and I can see how it could be used very effectively in certain circumstances. What a great hobby; all kinds of new things to discover.
On this trip I’ve visited the Painted Desert, Canyon de Chelly, Antelope Canyon, and Monument Valley. It just keeps getting better. Having seen most of the films shot here it was very exciting to see it live . The conditions were cloudy with some rain so even though I got out at sunset and sunrise neither lasted very long because of the weather. So like Antelope Canyon I’m already planning another trip. I’ll post two three or four and will start with a classic view that I took at first light. I didn’t see John Wayne or John Ford but I was thinking of them when I took this.
