It’s not really a factory but this is where gondolas are made by hand. Two hundred years ago there were 10,000 of these water taxis. Today there are approximately 400 being used for tourism. A new gondola will cost around $45,000.
No trip to Venice is complete without taking a boat ride along the Grand Canal.

The Villa del Balbianello was the site of the last scenes of the James Bond movie. It’s located on Lake Como near Lenno. We recently spent a few days touring the area.
We had the good fortune to wake up to this view every morning during our stay in Rome. In the foreground is the old city wall and the white structure to the right of the intersection is the entrance to the Villa Borghese Gardens and Museum.
This young lady had been cleaning outside her store in Rome and rearranging the posters on the wall. She had stepped back to admire her work.
I was on an early morning walk to the Jewish Quarter and passed by this apartment for rent. Amazing to me to have these majestic columns still standing out front.
Throughout the Vatican Museum there are areas where the floors are from ancient Roman mosaics created with thousands of small pieces. Many are roped off and with no flash allowed indoors, natural light made for some interesting photos.
