The lighthouse was established in 1890 and this photo is of the lighthouse keepers home. The site is assessable by trolly from the lighthouse parking lot near Avila Bay and is a very popular tour. It is run by a board and docents. They close at 5:00PM and I’ve asked several times to provide a sunset tour for photographers. That hasn’t happened yet so all we get are these sunny day shots.
I saw on the map a place called Point No Point which is at the northern tip of the Kitsap Peninsula, Washington. With a name like that I was curious and read that it was home to a lighthouse which was built in 1880. After a 45 minute drive from Bainbridge Island there it was.
In 1822 a French Physicist named Augustin Fresnel invented a lens that would make his name commonplace along the seacoasts of Europe and North America. It looked like a giant glass beehive, with a light at the center. I took a photo of this one that’s on display at Point San Luis Lighthouse, Avila CA
