Having grown up in Sedona and with family still living in the area I get there often. I always devote one morning watching the sun rise on Bell Rock.
This was along the Aspen Loop trail which begins at Aspen Corner north of Flagstaff, AZ.
Mingus Mountain at 7815′ separates Prescott and Cottonwood, Arizona. There is a unpaved forest service road that takes you close enough for a short hike to this vantage point overlooking the Verde Valley. Several forest fires have the turned the sky and horizon very hazy. In addition, much of the West is experiencing a heat wave and when I was here this morning at 5:30AM it was 70°.
Canyon de Chelly has several Indian ruins and they are well protected from the tourists for obvious reasons. I was here two days and this shot is the only one where I needed a zoom lens to get “close” enough. The Anasazi people are believed to be the first to reside in the canyon and were the builders of these dwellings.
